As the theme of the rabbit from the year 2011, the Dragon is part of the Australian Lunar Series II. The the first edition of the Australian Lunar Series was minted from 1996 until the year 2007. From the year 2008 the coinage of the Lunar Series II started.
The distinctive identifying feature of the Lunar series are the beautiful animal themes of the Chinese lunar calendar, which change annually.
2012 is the year of the Dragon. People who are born in the years of the Dragon are born 1904, 1916, 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000 or 2012. These people are healthy, energetic and stubborn. They are perfectionists and demand the same from others.
Unlike other bullion coins, the coins of the Lunar 1 oz denominations are limited with a maximum circulation figure per year. Because of the limitation you can profit by the increase of the price of gold or silver and also by a price increase due to the demand of older years and special designs.
