This series was coined in the first edition from 1996 to 2007. Since the year 2008 the coinage of the Lunar Series II is produced. The distinctive identifying feature of the Lunar series are the beautiful animal themes of the Chinese lunar calendar, which change annually.
It started in 1996 with the motive of the rat (or mouse). Unlike other bullion coins (e. g. Australian Nugget / Kangaroo), the coins of the Lunar I series are limited with a maximum circulation figure per year. This maximum circulation figure differs depending on the coin size. Because of the limitation you can profit by the increase of the price of gold or silver and also by a price increase due to the demand of older years and special designs.
