The coin was the 330th Danish navigator Vitus Jonassen Bering birthday of the characterized. The output of 5 kg silver coin was noble in his memory.
In the service of the Russian tsars, Bering had the order to demonstrate that there is no land bridge between Asia and the American continent. The order could ultimately be fulfilled in spite of enormous stresses and strains. Bering died on the way back home with some of his sailors.
The place of his death is today named after him, the Bering Islands. Today above all known is the Bering Street connection between America and Asia.
The bullion coin is made of pure silver and has a par value of $ 500. The fineness is 999/1000. The coin is proof and will be delivered in a nice wooden box.
The design shows the expedition ship and the outlines of countries USA and Russia. Integrated in the coin are a thermometer and a compass.
